Malvern Audio Research is set to launch a new Audio Detail 205D pre-amp at this year’s North West Audio Show, which will take place this coming weekend at Cranage, Cheshire.
This is the first showing of their new 205D DHT (Directly Heated Triode) pre-amplifier.
To give a little background, the 205 D was a small Western Electric power output valve from the mid/late 1920s.
However, to make this pre-amplifier very special, they have used the KR Audio reproduction of the original “Type R Valve”(Marconi Valve), originally made from 1916/1917, and used extensively during the First World War, well over 100 years ago!!
This is also a directly heated triode, using a simple Tungsten wire as the cathode and represents one of the very earliest mass production vacuum Thermionic valves ever made!
